Book Review: The Blessings of Friendship Treasury By Mary Engelbreit

Publisher's Description

The Blessings of Friendship, created by New York Times bestselling author and artist Mary Engelbreit, is a playful and poignant treasury of poetry, Bible verses, and quotes that celebrate the joy of friendship.

Author Bio

Mary Engelbreit grew up studying the illustrations in the vintage storybooks of her mother’s own childhood, and she developed a unique style that harkens back to those simpler times. Mary’s distinctive images have made her a celebrity to millions, who eagerly snap up gift items, calendars, books, fabrics, and more. Mary’s dearest wish has always been to illustrate for children. Her New York Times bestselling The Night Before Christmas is already part of the holiday tradition for families across the country.

My Review
This book is a compilation of many works that talk about being a nice friend.   When I read it with my children I was able to stop on many pages and discuss the true meaning of some of the mini stories.  This is a book that will require young minds to do some deeper level thinking while learning how to be a great friend.   I disagree that this book is for ages 4-8 because I believe many four year old's are a bit young for some of the pages and would recommend 6-10.

The artwork is very well cultured and very calm coloring.   I understand how the author has studied her mothers old children's books and got inspiration from the artwork from them.  The outfits the children are wearing are older and nothing screams current or trendy but rather classical and simple.

Thank you Zondervan for supplying this book in exchange for an honest review.   I was not paid for this review and all opinions are 100% mine.

"The Reading Game" Review and Giveaway

Description: The first book in  The Reading Game  learn-to-read series tells the story of a skunk without a stripe who is rejected by the other skunks but finds acceptance among some cats and becomes their defender.  It’s told in rhyme, is beautifully illustrated, and is 32 pages long.  It will be the first book the student reads, and there are five more to follow in this groundbreaking learn to read program. After completing Skunk, Game 1, the student has learned five words (can, cat, is, me, not).  Playing Game 2 adds an additional five w...
