Book Review: "Win or Lose I Love You" by Lysa Terkeurst

Book Description

Win or lose, one thing that’s true . . . No matter what, I love you!

Competition can bring out the worst in us, but it can also be an opportunity to learn impactful life lessons. That’s why it’s so important for kids to understand how to handle winning and losing!

Join Lulu and Max as they help Bear-Bear, Goosey, Coyote and the rest of their animal friends in the Field Day contests determine who will be the leader of Lulu’s forest.

But as the animals soon find out, not everyone can win. Sore losers, unkind winners, flaring tempers, and a few tears are taking the fun straight out of Field Day!

Just like Lulu and Max help the animals navigate the ups and downs of the day, with Win or Lose, I Love You parents will be equipped to help children:
Replace the selfish characteristics of competition with an understanding of how to treat others fairly
Overcome the tendency to display poor sportsmanship by using Biblical truths to develop a Christ-like attitude
Reject the labels of winning and losing and embrace that they are loved no matter how they perform.
Win or Lose, I Love You will show your child that, no matter what, their value is tied to who they are, not how they play!

My Review:

As a special education teacher I really appreciated this book!   There are so many times when this book should be read and reread in my classroom.   I know it is hard for many people young and old to lose and to lose with grace and a good sportsmanship attitude.   We all need a reminder to treat others the way we want to be treated.   My favorite thing in this story comes at the end with several scripture references.   They included Colossians 3:23, Luke 6:31, Proberbs 24:17, Romans 12:10, 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Peter 4:8, Phillipians 2:3-4, James 4:6, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and Galatians 6:9.

The actual story is very fun and I think kids can relate to it very well.   The animals are having a field day and most schools have some sort of event similar to this with events.   The animals all want to do well just like we do when we are in a competition but sometimes we don't win and this book shows us the ugly side of losing.   I think this book makes it very clear that this behavior is not good while shows some positive choices by other animals.

This book is a feel good book with a social skill that we all need to be reminded of often!   I definatley think it is a book worth having and pulling out when a big event comes up or times when we struggle with being a good sport!

The pictures are fun as well as you can imagine pictures with wild animals doing events outside can get fun and silly!

"The Reading Game" Review and Giveaway

Description: The first book in  The Reading Game  learn-to-read series tells the story of a skunk without a stripe who is rejected by the other skunks but finds acceptance among some cats and becomes their defender.  It’s told in rhyme, is beautifully illustrated, and is 32 pages long.  It will be the first book the student reads, and there are five more to follow in this groundbreaking learn to read program. Each of The Reading Game's six stories is told using just thirty new words.  These are broken down into six sets of five words.  The student learns to read each set of five words by playing a simple word matching game.  Frequent exposure through play hard wires these words into long-term memory.  Rote learning is transformed into a fast-paced game with a winner every few seconds. After completing Skunk, Game 1, the student has learned five words (can, cat, is, me, not).  Playing Game 2 adds an additional five words (sad, she, stay, this, with). The s

Dry Idea: Deodorant Review and Giveaway

I know most of you know I was at kids camp last week and I think I mentioned the humidity and heat that we had that week!  I was daring as I only brought my new Dry Idea  deodorant  that I had never used prior.  I had no idea if it was going to keep me from smelling like B.O or if I was going to have sweaty pits. So how did the Dry Idea hold up to the hot and humid days at kids camp???  Arms raised high during worship in the morning and in the evening!  :)  I was dry and I did not stink!  :) WOOT WOOT!  I had the unscented brand and I usually do prefer a pretty scent but it worked and they do have scents which include powder fresh and cotton dry that I might try in the future.  :) The Dry Idea Roll-On is 24 hour protection, fast drying MicroCotton Formula, hypo allergenic, and contains Vitamin E.  :) Don't like roll on's??  They do offer Clear Gel and an Invisible Solid.  :) Dry Idea provided a free sample of their Advanced Dry roll-On so I could review them.  However,
