Super Mario Party

Happy 6th Birthday Titus!  He loves both Mario and Luigi but chose to be Luigi all afternoon.

We had so much fun with his Super Mario themed birthday party!  A huge thank-you to Oriental Trading for helping me get most of the supplies I needed for his party!   Oriental Trading had birthday banners, plates, cups, balloons, and of course Mario and Luigi masks and mustache.  WE adored the masks and the posters which helped us decorate and set the mood for fun for the whole party!

So the first game we played was pin the mustache on Mario and Luigi.   This was a fun game and the kids enjoyed doing the game but then taking their mustache off and putting it on themselves!

After the mustache game, we played the pie face game... that was some good laughs.

Next we needed to pose in our mustache's and so mom would have a fun picture for years!

We also had yummy cupcakes!  Thanks to my friend Randi for coming over the night before making them!  We had Goombas, stars, mushrooms, and bricks with the question marks!  It was my first time really working with fondant and it was a learning experience for sure!

Before we handed out the goodie bags, we had an obstacle course that the kids had a ton of fun in! After the course, we also had to have some fun with a pinata!

Titus, I don't even know where to start on this birthday post.  It is becoming harder and harder to admit you are growing up because I still see you as my baby.  Technically you are such a little guy right now and I can still easily pick you up and I know at 6 years old I need to stop doing that...however, I love being able to and kinda enjoy baby-ing  you.   I know I know pretty soon you will be so mad at me so I am learning some self control in that area.

Titus, you are such an important person in our family.  You bring joy to the room with endless silly things and laughs each day.  You might be quiet at times but I know your brain is constantly thinking of things all the time.

You are a thoughtful kid, you see and act in a loving way.   You can be sensitive at times which is okay and teaching me to help you learn to deal with hurts and pain.

This last year you showed us you love soccer and are really good at it!  You are starting to be a great reader!  You love school and your teacher!  You have a lot of great friends and even though you have a few kids that don't always play fair you are learning to be an includer and friend no matter what.

No matter what we are blessed that God let us be your parents!  I love being your mom!

Hugs and kisses,

Love Mom!

"The Reading Game" Review and Giveaway

Description: The first book in  The Reading Game  learn-to-read series tells the story of a skunk without a stripe who is rejected by the other skunks but finds acceptance among some cats and becomes their defender.  It’s told in rhyme, is beautifully illustrated, and is 32 pages long.  It will be the first book the student reads, and there are five more to follow in this groundbreaking learn to read program. Each of The Reading Game's six stories is told using just thirty new words.  These are broken down into six sets of five words.  The student learns to read each set of five words by playing a simple word matching game.  Frequent exposure through play hard wires these words into long-term memory.  Rote learning is transformed into a fast-paced game with a winner every few seconds. After completing Skunk, Game 1, the student has learned five words (can, cat, is, me, not).  Playing Game 2 adds an additional five w...

Book Review: "God I feel Scared"

Kids have big feelings, but none of their feelings are too big for God. In this picture book from licensed counselor Michelle Nietert and Tama Fortner, young readers will explore what it means to feel scared and discover how to manage their emotions in a healthy way. Scared is a feeling that can be hard to face, but if we listen to it, we can learn things about ourselves. In  God, I Feel Scared , children will discover that it’s okay to be scared and that God is with us in all things, including fear. With simple, accessible text, scared becomes an emotion that kids don’t need to avoid and instead something they can use to better understand themselves and grow closer to God. The bright, emotive art by Nomar Perez will draw kids in, and a note in the back provides tips and techniques parents and caregivers can use to help young children process their feelings in a beneficial way. God, I Feel Scared  teaches kids ages 4 to 8 how to: Identify the feeling of fear and recognize thin...
