7 Fun Things to Do as a Family

Are you running out of ways to entertain your children? Do you want to create wonderful memories as a family? If so, you’re in luck, because below are seven fun things you can do together that will entertain Mom, Dad and the kids.
  1. Go on a Hike
Find a family-friendly trail so everyone can enjoy a hike in the great outdoors. It’s a fantastic way to feel closer to nature, enjoy a little exercise and to spot a variety of wildlife on your travels. Mom and Dad could even write a checklist for items a child needs to discover, such as an acorn, squirrel or waterfall.
  1. Origami
Origami is more than a fun craft to enjoy as a family. It is a unique skill that allows a creator to show off their talent and creativity. From beautiful flowers to stunning birds, there’s no limit to what you can create with paper with a little practice. It’s an entertaining and effective way for adults and children to embrace their creative side, whilst laughing at Dad’s poor first attempt.
  1. Bake
Baking cookies, cakes or pastries will allow the family to work together as a team to create delicious treats. Kids will love to get their hands dirty in the kitchen, and it’s a great way to teach your little ones a life-long skill. What’s more, you can all sit down at the table to enjoy a yummy treat that’s fresh out the oven.
  1. Learn an Instrument
Teach your child that they are never too old to develop a new talent and take a guitar, piano or violin lesson with your son or daughter. The family can learn an instrument together, so they help each other overcome any hurdles whilst boosting their confidence. Also, if you have already mastered an instrument, you could pass on your knowledge to your children so they will follow in your footsteps.
  1. Go Swimming
Every child loves to splash in the pool, whatever the weather. Grab your swimming costumes and enjoy a fun day out, which will help your children learn a life-saving skill whilst creating fun memories together. You’ll also feel a sense of pride when they finally master the breaststroke or jump off a diving board in style.
  1. Visit a Museum
Many museums offer free admission days for the whole family to learn about a new topic. Your little ones will have fun exploring the different exhibitions, and you may even discover some facts you didn’t know, too. There are bound to be a variety of museums to choose from that will allow everyone to learn about local, national or art history.
  1. Play a Board Game
Enjoy hours of endless fun by playing family board games with the kids. Allow your children to pick a game each to play, such as Scrabble, Monopoly or Cluedo. It’s a great opportunity to laugh, learn and enjoy a little healthy competition.

"The Reading Game" Review and Giveaway

Description: The first book in  The Reading Game  learn-to-read series tells the story of a skunk without a stripe who is rejected by the other skunks but finds acceptance among some cats and becomes their defender.  It’s told in rhyme, is beautifully illustrated, and is 32 pages long.  It will be the first book the student reads, and there are five more to follow in this groundbreaking learn to read program. Each of The Reading Game's six stories is told using just thirty new words.  These are broken down into six sets of five words.  The student learns to read each set of five words by playing a simple word matching game.  Frequent exposure through play hard wires these words into long-term memory.  Rote learning is transformed into a fast-paced game with a winner every few seconds. After completing Skunk, Game 1, the student has learned five words (can, cat, is, me, not).  Playing Game 2 adds an additional five w...

Book Review: "God I feel Scared"

Kids have big feelings, but none of their feelings are too big for God. In this picture book from licensed counselor Michelle Nietert and Tama Fortner, young readers will explore what it means to feel scared and discover how to manage their emotions in a healthy way. Scared is a feeling that can be hard to face, but if we listen to it, we can learn things about ourselves. In  God, I Feel Scared , children will discover that it’s okay to be scared and that God is with us in all things, including fear. With simple, accessible text, scared becomes an emotion that kids don’t need to avoid and instead something they can use to better understand themselves and grow closer to God. The bright, emotive art by Nomar Perez will draw kids in, and a note in the back provides tips and techniques parents and caregivers can use to help young children process their feelings in a beneficial way. God, I Feel Scared  teaches kids ages 4 to 8 how to: Identify the feeling of fear and recognize thin...
