Book Review: "The Silence Between Us" By Alison Gervais #BlinkYABooks

Thank you Zonderkids and Blinkya for this review opportunity. I wasn't familiar with Blink until I reviewed this book. According to Blink's website their mission is: Blink inspires and equips YA readers to lead lives of significance, integrity, and purpose through true stories and fiction that blend imaginative and exciting storytelling and are always uplifting and captivating.

When I started to read this book I thought it was still a part of Zondervan so I continued to wait for a faith portion to come but it did not.   I know realize that Blink is not faith based but rather clean stories for youth.   I would say since this book was still aimed for teens they did not have inappropriate relationships which was nice.  The relationship that did happen they only kissed a handful of times in the story and nothing more was mentioned or inferred for teens going to far which is nice since society tries to sell sex all the time   The story was easy to get into and most of the time I just wanted to keep reading.  I like how the author writes and how it was easy to stay engaged in her story.  Alison, the author, does a great job of helping you understand each character nicely.   I like how it was easy to know what was signed with all caps. The entire story is super believable for any high school. The deaf community would probably give two thumbs up for this nicely written book.

One thing I wondered was her self portrait assignment.   I absolutely love the artwork of the signing hands "friends" on the cover.  I wondered through this assignment if that would be her self portrait that was assigned but they only mentioned her doing hearing aides.   Unless I missed it but I really wanted her portrait to be a bigger deal when she completed it and sadly it didn't within the story.

My dislike mainly because I was still looking for a faith portion was actually having the characters discuss books and movies and still had to hear Harry Potter.... I am not about magic or any Harry Potter garbage.   Hey it's my opinion and I am being honest.   It was just a quick mention but again my kids will not be reading Harry Potter and for them to hear about kids loving this series makes me gag.  There I said it... but as a Christian mom blogger I do feel I needed to get that out there.

Thanks for reading my review.  Hope your summer reading is going well.

"The Reading Game" Review and Giveaway

Description: The first book in  The Reading Game  learn-to-read series tells the story of a skunk without a stripe who is rejected by the other skunks but finds acceptance among some cats and becomes their defender.  It’s told in rhyme, is beautifully illustrated, and is 32 pages long.  It will be the first book the student reads, and there are five more to follow in this groundbreaking learn to read program. Each of The Reading Game's six stories is told using just thirty new words.  These are broken down into six sets of five words.  The student learns to read each set of five words by playing a simple word matching game.  Frequent exposure through play hard wires these words into long-term memory.  Rote learning is transformed into a fast-paced game with a winner every few seconds. After completing Skunk, Game 1, the student has learned five words (can, cat, is, me, not).  Playing Game 2 adds an additional five words (sad, she, stay, this, with). The s

Dry Idea: Deodorant Review and Giveaway

I know most of you know I was at kids camp last week and I think I mentioned the humidity and heat that we had that week!  I was daring as I only brought my new Dry Idea  deodorant  that I had never used prior.  I had no idea if it was going to keep me from smelling like B.O or if I was going to have sweaty pits. So how did the Dry Idea hold up to the hot and humid days at kids camp???  Arms raised high during worship in the morning and in the evening!  :)  I was dry and I did not stink!  :) WOOT WOOT!  I had the unscented brand and I usually do prefer a pretty scent but it worked and they do have scents which include powder fresh and cotton dry that I might try in the future.  :) The Dry Idea Roll-On is 24 hour protection, fast drying MicroCotton Formula, hypo allergenic, and contains Vitamin E.  :) Don't like roll on's??  They do offer Clear Gel and an Invisible Solid.  :) Dry Idea provided a free sample of their Advanced Dry roll-On so I could review them.  However,
