"His Only Son" Movie Review and Giveaway #HisOnlySon #AngelStudios #OldTestament #film #Easter #Easterfilm #faithgram #christianmovie
What a wonderful couple of months we have had in the media with Christian films! I have enjoyed the Chosen series and have watched The Jesus Revolution and now I had the opportunity to get a sneak peak at His Only Son!
Did you know that His Only Son is the first ever movie to use crowdfunding to get a theatrical release!! Thank you brothers and sisters in Christ for using your money to support Christian films! This film partnered with Angel Studios and crowdfunded over $1, 235,000 for this release! The more seats sold the more theaters it will go to and more screenings at the theater.
Hollywood spends millions on each film they make but His Only Son had a budget of $250,000! This movie currently is set to release on March 31st and at 1200 theaters nation wide.
This timely release is just in time for EASTER! This film is probably one of the most impactful Easter films in this generation. You have the opportunity to spend Easter weekend watching this phenomenal film.
About the Movie: His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.
My Thoughts:
As always I like to give you my honest opinions the good, the okay, and maybe even the bad. First, I was super excited to get an early showing to watch this film. I know the story of Abraham and Isaac very well. I love being able to connect Old Testament story to New Testament. So Abraham being a dad, a dad who waited such a long time for the promise of a son and the promise of being the father of many nations was asked to put his son on the alter. This parallels to Jesus because God had to allow his son to be the sacrifice for all of us. These topics are hard for younger ages but with Easter fast approaching it is time to discuss all of what Jesus did for us so we can have a big celebration that Christ is not still in the grave because he is ALIVE AND WELL!
I hate that Christian films will sometimes be labeled as corny or cheesy. NOT this film, acting is great, the elements of the film all were professional and looked amazing and not cheap! There was no thing that could give this film that corny or cheesy label! Even with a very affordable budget compared to many other films this is film is done and done WELL!
The story goes back and forth between the traveling to the spot of sacrifice to earlier years of waiting on the promise from God. One thing I wish they would have done a bit more is the aging of the characters for those scenes. It was somewhat hard to see the age difference in Sarah and I think Abraham could have had a bit more gray hair too to help showcase the age differences in the film. Not that big of a deal but worth mentioning my opinion.
I also think having some background knowledge of this story is a must. So if you bring a friend who does not know this biblical story it is time to step up and open the word and share. There is a little talking at the end of the movie but I wish they would have gone a little deeper to point people the similarities of Jesus and the cross. The talking though was primarily about fundraising and opportunities to give and then after that was some scriptures to read. So my heart was conflicted because I would want to ensure that a non believer or a baby christian would be able to understand.
This Easter take someone to the movie with you! Help others see Abraham's faith being tested but our hope being born!
